How it works

One key. No windows, no modes.

01

fn

Hold

Press and hold the fn key from anywhere. Your text editor, your terminal, a message box.

02

Speak

Talk normally. Words stream onto the screen as you say them, not after.

03

Done. Clean text, right where your cursor was.

Release

Let go of the key. Punctuated, readable text stays behind. Nothing else does.

Privacy

Where your voice goes

Nowhere.

Beam runs its speech model on your Mac's own GPU, through Metal, on Apple Silicon. No cloud. No accounts. No audio uploads, ever. There is no server on the other end because there is no other end.

Most tools
your voice → their servers → text comes back
Beam
your voice → your GPU → text, on the spot

That is the whole difference. Most dictation tools stream your audio to servers for processing. Beam does the work on your machine, with a model from the NVIDIA Parakeet family running locally. It works with the network cable cut.

The learning loop

Teach it a word once. It stays taught.

Names, jargon, Hinglish. Correct Beam one time and it remembers, in a dictionary that lives on your Mac like everything else it knows about you.
